In our Cybersmart session today Mr G showed us how to create a word find. We had so much fun creating our own word finds and solving our friends. Here is my word find that I made about my favourite game Overwatch.
The Warriors Experience
Yesterday at GTS we were super lucky and had the New Zealand Warriors Foundation come into school. Here is Shalae’s recount about her day with the warriors:
On Wednesday at GTS the whole school met the warriors in person for the first time. Firstly we went to the hall so they could introduce their names, nicknames, and favorite foods. After that we went to the fields to take a picture with the warriors. Then we went back to our classrooms to do a bit of learning. Next we went back to the fields to learn some skills with them. Finally Jasmine and Lillyan did a video with all the pictures and edited it and made a movie! I felt excited because I had never seen the warriors before. Have you met the warriors before?
Here are the videos that Jasmine and Lillyan made:
Fake News
This week for our cybersmart challenge we focused on Smart Media. We talked about why we can’t trust everything we see online. We then discussed ways to check if information is truthful or not. We then made our own fake news headline. What do you do to make sure the information you read online can be trusted?
The Awesome Duffy Performance
On Tuesday Glen Taylor went to the hall to watch a performance from the Duffy people. The show was about space and travelling between planets. My favourite part was when the star baby vomited on Duffy because Duffy screamed really loudly and it was funny. I learnt lots of new facts about space when watching the show.
Athletics Day at GTS
On Friday GTS had Athletics House Day. We had so much fun. We all participated in different activities. The activities were sprints, long jump, high jump, rob the nest shot put and discus. My favourite event was high jump. Hazel’s favourite event was sprints. Jerome’s favourite was high jump. After participating in all of our events we had a delicious sausage sizzle. After lunch we watched the sprints final and House Relays. Te-wai-o-Taki won the house relays. Overall we had an amazing day and we can not wait until our next house day!
A trip to the Movies.
On Wednesday we went to slyvia Park Movies to go to the Maiakalani Film Festival. We really enjoyed watching all the films from the different schools. Our favourite film was the Movie about the Happy Tongan Clowns because it was super funny to watch the clowns dance in the window. What was your favourite Movie from the Film Festival?
Our Film: How Rata Built a Waka.
In term 2 we were learning about Maori Myths and legends in class. We loved learning about the different myths and legends so decided to retell one for our film festival. We had also created an Animation on google slides during our cybersmart session with Mr Goodwin, so we decided to put these ideas together for our Film. We retold the story of how Rata built a Waka using lego. We had so much fun creating and building with lego. We hope you enjoy our film!
Piggy Banks
Today in class we went shopping! We looked through the ToyWorld catalog and selected a toy or toys that we would like to buy. It was so tricky making a decision because there were lots of awesome and cool toys that we wanted to buy. We had to justify our choices to Miss Hazleman in writing.
We then had to count out the correct amount of money that we needed. Most of the toys ended in 99 cents and we learnt that you can’t have 99 cents to you need to round the number up to the nearest dollar. We put our money in a piggy bank, and added our writing to the bottom of the piggy bank.
What would you buy from ToyWorld?
The Twits
Today on Friday the 27th of October Team Kea went to watch The Twits performed by the Tim Bray Musical Theatre Company. Before the show started we had to go drive to Te Oro in the Vans. Once we arrived at Te Oro we lined up and were shown to our seats by a man with a hat and flashlight. The show opened up with a song and then they introduced us to the characters. AJ’s favourite character was the Roly Poly Bird because the costume was bright, colourful and fat. Jaydah’s favourite character was Mr Twit because he was so hairy that he looked like big foot. Shalae’s favourite character was Muggle Wump the monkey because she was kind. The play was so funny because Mr and Mrs Twitt played lots of funny tricks on each other. Milani thought the funniest trick was when Mrs Twit put her eyeball into Mr Twitts mug and then he almost swallowed her eyeball! We really enjoyed the performance.
Bubble Fun!
Last week Miss Hazleman surprised us by giving us a bubble wand and letting us play with bubbles outside for a brain break. We had so much fun watching the bubbles blow in the bright blue sky. My favourite part was pretending the bubble wand was a light-saver. After playing we wrote a recount about our bubble experience. You can read our recounts on our individual blogs. Do you like playing with bubbles?
